Years after the discovery of AIVAS, Pern seemed to be in a state of non-worry and peace. The Weyrs lived in harmony as the Red Star slipped back to where it really belonged. Thread was gone forever, or so it seemed at the time, and the Pernese citizens were now allowed to go about their old habits before the stress of thread arrived. They learned new crafts and began to study the technology that AIVAS had given information for. Everything began anew and started to steadily advance...
Entering a new age of prosperity, new Weyrs were created and filled by different Weyrwomen who wanted to make their name's famous in new places. Thus three of the newest, and close to the largest, Weyr's were created so satisfy the needs of three great families. Named after each of the Weyrwomen who founded them, Sevaira Weyr, Califran Weyr and Lenoran Weyr rose to power that could almost equal that of Benden and Fort's. And even though the power share was often unbalanced, each of the Weyr's continued in their peaceful and prosperous lives.
Weyrwoman Sevaira and her dragon, Queen Jazzrath, took up permanent residence in a rather unusual place. While other Weyrs where located on top of mountains that overlooked their holds, Sevaira Weyr was tucked snuggly in between two mountain tops in a naturally occurring valley. It had taken many turns to make the outside structures completely safe from rock slides, for humans and dragons a like, but it was well worth it in the end. It was an ideal, yet seclusive, place to set up a weyr for the mountains gave them protection from three out of the four sides of the valley.
Although as fast as the peace and tranquility came, disaster struck seemingly out of no where. Arguments between Sevaira's sister Weyrs erupted as the dragon population began to diminish, since now there was no need for higher numbers of dragons to keep thread back. Sevaira, Benden, and Fort stayed neutral through all the bickering, both preferring to keep to themselves and out of contact from Lenoran and Califran weyrs if at all possible. Both of the bickering Weyrs began to absorb smaller, less prosperous weyrs in attempts to become the greatest. Leaving the three other Weyrs gladly accepting any transfers or Weyrs that decided not to bend to either of the two weyr's wills.
As the numerous weyrs dwindled to the five remaining super powers, Sevaira was able to keep her Weyr populated, even if it was just by the skin of her teeth. Jazzreth produced only two Queens from her numerous clutches, but fortunately those Queen's were also able to produce queens of their own. Generations past, Weyrwomen died, new ones ascended to their rightful position and the bickering between Lenoran and Califran Weyrs only worsened. While all the while Sevaira and the other neutral weyrs did whatever they could to stay out of the brewing war. And as if to make everything worse, the thread returned one day out of nowhere. Everyone was fearful and anxious, and nobody was ready for the thread fall, except for Benden and Fort. Luckily they alone had squared away enough Firestone to destroy the thread that fell close to their homes. Sevaira looked deep into their stocks and was able to find enough to keep their part of the skies free of fall, but there were many casualties, the results of letting the old ways die. On the other hand, Califran and Lenoran were forced to mine as much Firestone as they could, and their death tolls were the highest of the five weyrs. But that didn't stop them from raging into an all out war betwixt themselves as soon as the thread stopped falling.
Teiressa, the most current weyrwoman, and her Queen Lumiryth tried to continue on the path that had been passed down through the generations. She, as did the others, did a wonderful job at dodging any treaty or alliance that either of her sister Weyrs offered her. But one tragic day, as Teiressa flew to a peaceful meeting with Benden, she was ambushed by an attack party of unknown origins. The Queen recovered but her rider was only able to hang on to her life until a few days after a search party found the pair miles away. Grief over the death of their respected Weyrwoman flooded Sevaira weyr, but a small ounce of rejoice was added to that sorrow. For the Weyrwoman had held on just long enough to name her successor to the Weyrwomanship position. But her request was the strangest the Weyr had ever seen... Teiressa had not only named one, but two Senior weyrwomen. Forcing the two young Queenriders to share the commanding title, whether out of intelligence or because of the bash she had received to her head, no one would ever know. It was her death wish, and so the weyr made it be.
Now a few years later, Kaegan of Gold Millieth and Kilandra of Gold Arnmath, rule over the ever neutral Weyr. What will become of their rule, only time will tell.
